Share Six | Minimalism

This month’s theme was very difficult for me.  Portrait and macro photography are more of my thing.  So, spur of the moment I decided to invite my photographer friends out for a photo walk, figuring that I could hopefully get some pictures that would fit the “minimalism” theme.  Thankfully I was able to get one taker, despite the late notice.  My friend Faith of Faith Rebekah Photography joined me, and it happened to be her birthday too.  We walked around the district of Rock Island for about an hour and a half and enjoyed some coffee at Theo’s.  It was a wonderful morning!  I had so much fun!

Here are my six pictures for this month’s theme.

Share Six | Kitchen

Kitchen – the heart of the home.  I’ve lived in 5 different homes throughout my life, 4 of which have been since I got married.  While I wouldn’t say that the kitchen has always been the heart of our home (most times it was the dining room because meals, discussions and memories were shared there), I am trying to fill our kitchen with more heart.  Unfortunately, for us the kitchen is the hub right now.  It’s where papers and broken toys get dropped on the counters and left to die.  I’ll admit, I’m not always the greatest at just pitching things.  Maybe one day I’ll finally admit that the broken toys will never get fixed and just pitch them and finally file the papers.

I do have fond memories in our kitchens though.  Growing up at home, many memories were made around our kitchen table….family get togethers, games of bunco, coloring Easter eggs.
Once I got married, we moved into a little two bedroom home, the childhood home of my grandma.  My most vivid memory of that kitchen is the many evenings spent making dinner for my new husband That first fall there, there was one particular evening I just quit.  We had Asian beetles infiltrating our house, particularly the kitchen.  A few started to fall in the pot cooking on the stove.  I gave up, shut the stove off and just left.  I was so tired of vacuuming them up and more would come.

Fast forward to our move to the Chicago suburbs and our first apartment.  My fondest memories there were working in the kitchen while our little girl rolled around the kitchen in her walker.

Then fast forward to our current kitchen (don’t remember much from the 4th), where we remodeled it into my dream kitchen and have watched our kids learn to make meals.

For my take on the theme, I photographed some random things from our kitchen and some special things.

Any clue what this next item is? ?

In this next picture, I included a cabinet door from our first kitchen (my grandma’s childhood house) and an egg whisk we got as a wedding gift as well as an egg tray my husband recently bought me.

Share Six | Earth

Hope you enjoyed Kim, Debra, Sharleen and Erica’s takes on this months theme!

It’s hard to believe that it is June already!!  Another month has flown by!  Being that this month’s theme is “Earth”, naturally I set out to our garden for inspiration.  We have a sad little garden this year though.  I didn’t plant much.  So I had to scrounge for things to photograph.

IMG_9618_WM_web IMG_9620_WM_web IMG_9630_WM_web

I found a dead “earth”worm and was taking a picture of him, but thankfully I looked a few inches away and saw some other crawly critters that were much more photogenic.  So I photographed them instead.

I then scrounged some more and found this feather.

Kaylee’s Graduation Session

I can hardly believe it!!  My little niece is graduating.  Although, she’s not so little anymore. (*tears of nostalgia)

Here are some throwbacks from over the years.

IMG_0730

So many memories were made as my mom and I babysat her every day.  She often tagged along while I would meet my husband (boyfriend at the time) for lunch.  He got a wonderful surprise one time when he came to church with me and watched her while I played the organ for the service.  She threw up all over him.  Boy was that quite the initiation into the family.  LOL She was a little firecracker who kept us on our toes, and still does.  We had many dance parties and had a fun song that we especially enjoyed dancing to.  She was the flower girl for my wedding and I requested our special song for a special dance with her.  I love her dearly.

Now that I’ve embarrassed her enough, without further ado, here are some images from her graduation portrait session.  (I have to say, this was one of my favorite sessions, from the creek to the purple flowers to how photogenic she is, it was so much fun!)

Kaylee, I wish you all the best in every endeavor in life.  May God bless you and keep you!!

Share Six | Green

Hope you enjoyed Brandi, Torie and Sharleen’s pictures!!  Talk about talent!!

This month, I once again mulled over the theme, pushing myself to think outside the box.  I did in fact come up with some unique ideas for “green”, but the days got away from me, leaving me little time to execute my ideas.  So I decided last minute to just take the kids outside and take pictures of them in our midwestern landscape that has recently turned GREEN as spring has arrived.

I started out by photographing the sweet little boy, Mr. C, that we were watching for the day.  He is such a sweet little guy, and we had the privilege of watching him most of last summer and continue to watch him once a month.  He has a special place in our hearts.

Evening came though, and I decided to drag my kids out to get some pictures of them too.  They don’t care too much for me always having my camera with me, they’d rather I put it down and live in the moment.  Which is what I am trying to do more often now.  I need to periodically get pictures of them though, because they are quickly growing up, and I NEED to document these moments.

IMG_0236_WM_web IMG_0218_WM_web IMG_0314_WM_web IMG_0303_WM_web

I teared up tonight, because looking at your children through the eyes of a lens some how truly opens your eyes.  Your “mommy goggles” are removed (or at least partially removed). Tonight, instead of seeing my little ones, I saw these strange new kids…these kids who aren’t baby faced anymore.  Their faces looked so grown up tonight.  It broke my heart a little.  Where does the time go?!?  The funny thing is though, I thought the same thing about Mr. C.  As I was looking through the lens, I saw a more grown up face, not quite the same little baby face I had seen just a few weeks ago.

Ask me what this has to do with green and I guess I can’t really tell you, except that green is symbolic of “life” to me.  These little lives are growing right before my eyes.  They are growing like green weeds, faster than I can keep up with.  These precious children are so full of life, so full of joy.  Green may now be one of my favorite colors.  🙂

Hope you enjoy the theme!! Can’t wait to see your interpretations!!

Miss M ~ 5 years

I recently had the privilege of photographing Miss M’s 5 year pictures.  I’ve been photographing her since her newborn pictures, and it has been so much fun watching her grow over the years.  She is quite an awesome little lady!!

**WARNING!! Cuteness overload!!**  I had a hard time narrowing down which pictures to post, so I posted A LOT.

We started out her session at Lagomarcino’s with a  little vintage flair.  I might be lying if I said I wasn’t a little envious of her yummy ice cream. 🙂

Then we walked around the village for a little bit.  Does she not look like a little model here?!?  She’s got the smolder down.

And lastly, we finished up at the botanical center.

Miss M, thanks so much for being my buddy for the day!  I had so much fun with you!!

Share Six | Water

It’s April!!  Spring is finally here!!

April Showers bring May flowers, so I thought it only fitting to make this month’s theme be Water.

I had a plan of what I wanted to photograph and then I changed course about a hundred times.  Ok, that’s an exaggeration, but still it was a lot of times.  I actually ended up going with my original plan though of how I wanted to interpret the theme.

Here is my take….

Share Six | Narrow Depth of Field

I’m so excited that Share Six is back up and running!! On top of that, I am super excited to be a contributor!!

Hope you’ve enjoyed Sharleen’s, Kim’s, and Brandi’s takes on this months theme – Narrow Depth of Field.

I really debated on what to photograph. I almost always shoot with a very narrow depth of field, using close to the widest aperture on my lenses, so it was more of a challenge to be creative with this theme. I debated whether to do portrait or shoot nature. As you will see, I ended up going with nature.

We have a pond behind our yard that is normally abundant with photographic opportunities. Unfortunately though, it’s March and everything is pretty much still dead and lacking color. I scrounged around looking for anything that might look halfway decent photographed. I crawled on the ground, lied down on my stomach and tried to contort myself to get any creative angle I could. Our neighbor even came out to see what “the crazy neighbor” (me) was doing. So this is what I ended up getting. Hope you enjoy!!

Don’t forget to participate and post your take on the theme as well! Link them to our Facebook page and share on Instagram!

Share Six | Rustic

When I heard this month’s theme the ideas started swarming in my head.  My mom has TONS of antiques and one of my best friends has a farm.  I knew I wouldn’t be short on opportunities for things to photograph.

Before photographing anything though, I wanted to look up the dictionary definition of “rustic”.  I’ve noticed lately in our society, that we misuse some words.  So I tend to err on the side of caution and look up the definition before I use the word.  This word, however, was true to the definition I had learned.

I chose the first definition in the dictionary to go off of in thinking of things to photograph.  The definition was….”of, relating to, or suitable for the country”.

I LOVE the country, and as a young girl I dreamed of living on a farm.  So I knew I would head to my friend’s farm and take my photos there.  It ended up being quite a fun morning, zipping around the farm on the ATV.  I should have taken some photos of us when we were done.  Our feet were covered in mud!

Well, here is my take on the theme RUSTIC….

So I’m trying to get back into doing some photography that’s strictly for inspiration for myself.  That’s why I loved the Project Ten group.  I’ve only given a go at it one other time and that was here.  Well, they have changed some things a bit and now it is Share Six.  Here is my take on this month’s theme: Floral.
