Another month has passed.  I’m afraid to blink or I may miss the rest of the year.  Is it just me, or is time perpetually speeding up?  I’m not sure when I stepped on this merry-go-round of life, but someone please help me off!!

With it being October now, it’s time for a new Share Six theme.  It has been chosen, and it is – shooting through.

This first image is of my friend’s daughter.  She is absolutely adorable and has an awesome personality!!  They were in town over the summer visiting from Arizona.  I asked my friend if I could photograph her daughter, and she obliged.  Miss L was being super cute hiding from me in the field of flowers.  As she was peeking through them, I thought it was the cutest thing and had to grab a few shots of her.  What a cutie!!

This next one is from a session I did years ago.  This little guy just wanted to play, so I went with the flow and shot through the slide.  I was worried at first with the sun being so bright and him being backlit, but the inside of the slide worked as a natural reflector.  I just love his little fingers and his tongue sticking out too.

This image is from an engagement session I did last spring.  During this part of the session we were in the botanical center, and I wanted to give the feeling that we were immersed in the jungle.  So I had them stand among some branches.  Then I shot through some other branches as well.  This couple is just stellar!!  They are so in love with each other and it showed in every image.

This next image is one I took on our vacation.  After doing our water theme a few months back, I’ve become a bit obsessed with underwater pictures.  We stayed in a little cabin on a lake, and my son spent the majority of the time in the water.  So naturally I decided to get some shots “shooting through” the water.

We recently participated in a special event at our local zoo – “Breakfast With The Monkeys”.  After that was done, we were given admission to the rest of the zoo for the remainder of the day.  One of my favorite animals is the fox.  I just think they are absolutely beautiful.  I tried my best to get a few shots, but with people constantly hovering, and the low light making it hard to grab a quick shot, I only got about 4 decent shots.  This one immediately stood out to me because it looks as if his head is popping out of the glass.  Apparently I caught him at the right spot where there was nothing reflecting in the glass in front of him.

My last image I shot through one of my piano books.  I saw a similar shot a few years back and wanted to replicate it with my own music and piano so it would have personal meaning to me.

I hope I’ve given you a nice variety of “shooting through” images.  It’s not something I naturally think to do when composing a shot, but I’m really going to try to do it more often.  It can definitely create a very neat effect!

Share Six’s theme for September is gold in honor of The Gold Hope Project.  Here is a little info about them…..

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, so for all of September we’ve decided to team up and join forces with @thegoldhopeproject to help spread awareness!!
For those of you that don’t know, The Gold Hope Project is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization of photographers who aim to provide free portrait sessions to families battling pediatric cancer. As photographers, we understand how truly important it is to document our children’s lives, and what better gift to give to parents going through such a tremendously difficult time! In addition to pairing young warriors with photographers, @TheGoldHopeProject also works to raise funds for pediatric cancer research! If you want to participate with us this month, here are just a few things you can consider:
1. Tag your gold photos with the #TeamUp4GoldKids (for features) and #theGoldHopeProject (to spread awareness). You will have a chance to be featured on one of the MANY participating hubs for the month of September!

We decided to switch gears for September’s theme on the 22nd of August and support this wonderful cause.  I was getting ready to head off on vacation which threw a bit of a wrench in getting some photos.  I was really hoping to donate a session to a child with cancer and post those photos for the theme.  Unfortunately I just didn’t have time to make that happen.

I ended up using some photos I took earlier this summer.  A local farmer planted 8 acres of Black-eyed Susans.  It was an absolutely stunning sight!  They were very generous and let people come take photos in the field.  I had thought it would be fun to get a few fun shots of my girl in the field.  When we pulled up to the field there was a thunderstorm rolling through.  It was a small one though.  It actually made for some stunning skies.  Here are a few images I took that evening.

As you’ve made your way through the circle, you already know by now that August’s theme is Water.  We did this theme two years ago in April and I did some pictures of water droplets splashing into a bowl of water.  This time around I decided to try for some underwater pictures.  I wanted to stretch myself as it’s not something I photograph very often.  It was also made more difficult though as we took our pool down this year.  I had hoped to get some images in an outdoor pool, but time got away from me (we’ve had family in town and my daughter is in a musical) and so we had to head to the community college’s indoor pool last minute.  I would have preferred some outdoor sunny glistening pool pictures, but this will have to do.

For my final image, I’m going to post an underwater picture I took last summer at an outside pool.  

It gives a little comparison of the lighting differences between an indoor pool and outdoor.  There is so much that goes into an image.  The first five pictures were shot with a GoPro and were much higher resolution images than my final image which was shot with a point and shoot underwater camera.  I’m new to underwater photography, so maybe there was more I could do with the editing of the first pictures, but I have to say that lighting plays a big role in an image.  Not that the first images weren’t good, they definitely captured the “mood” of the lighting at the indoor pool, and I like the mood of the pool lighting.  Then you look at my final image and it’s a totally different vibe.  It’s light and airy.  A lot of photographers find a style or look they like to always shoot in.  While I had hoped to do bright outdoor pool pictures, it was definitely fun (and challenging) trying some indoor more moody images.  I think that’s what I love about photography.  While I would love to create my own signature style in my images, I tend to always go back to just shooting the images as the scene was with whatever mood and lighting was there.  I’ve even beaten myself up about not having a signature style, but I’m kind of coming to the conclusion though that documenting the scene as it was IS my style.

This month’s Share Six theme is lines.  There are lines everywhere, both in nature and in architecture.  I immediately thought of the peacock though, with their beautiful plumage.  The white lines of the shafts are contrasted by the green lines of the vanes. I am in awe of the beauty of the peacock!!

With it just being Easter last Sunday, I thought it would be fitting to include a picture of our church sanctuary in my series.  It is all decorated for Easter here.  I love the lines of the pews, beams, and ceiling. Then you have the line of the aisle leading right up to the lines of the cross.

How could I not include the lines of the keys of a piano?  I’m sure I’m partial, but I think pianos are absolutely beautiful!!

And here is my beautiful daughter.  I loved the lines of the hammock to the left of her and the lines of the guitar strings.

My next picture is a covered bridge up in Northern Wisconsin near where we vacation.  I just loved the lines!! I could have spent more time there trying to find different angles to photograph had we not needed to get back to our cabin.

And last is a picture of the lines of the spokes of my bicycle wheel. It will probably sound funny, but I think bicycle wheels are pretty. There is something about the spokes fanning out. I truly believe there is beauty everywhere if you just look for it.
