I chose this month’s theme. As I’ve come along in my photography journey, I’ve come to realize that it’s not always fun having to schedule sessions around times of the day with good lighting, or finding locations with good lighting. I’d get requests for specific locations that just wouldn’t have good light. So, I quickly realized that if I didn’t want to constantly be a slave to good natural light, I’d need to learn to create my own.
I’m not going to lie, it can be a pain lugging around a good light and softbox, but it really is worth it. I can also create unique lighting scenarios, which scratches that creative itch. It’s really fun to brainstorm ways to creatively light a subject.
Here are a few examples of where I’ve used artificial light to create a scene:

April’s theme is macro. This is one genre of photography that I really enjoy and don’t tend to feel is much of a challenge. So this time I decided to use some flashes to create some different lighting and give myself an extra challenge.
I played around with light placement and different methods of diffusing the lights. I tried some backlighting as well as some side lighting and two lights for some images. I also did some shots on a white backdrop and some on a black backdrop. As you can see, the lighting and different backdrop can really change the mood of an image.

So it was my turn to choose the theme this month. I haven’t done double exposures in a while, so I thought that would be a good theme. I really wanted to create some fun shots. However, this time around, I wasn’t as satisfied with my results. As usual, I DID wait until the last minute to work on my images, and being that everything is still brown and dingy too, I just didn’t find much inspiration.
This first image was done in camera.
These next two were done in Photoshop.
And this last one was actually an image I took years ago in camera. We did these theme several years ago, and to this day, this is probably my favorite double exposure image I have ever taken.

I always find this style of photography difficult. I guess it’s because it doesn’t really appeal to me. It’s just not my style. I do however love how these Share Six challenges really force me to step out of my comfort zone as well as challenge me to create art using a method I don’t really care for.
For these images I just went out in my backyard and did some experimenting.
I hope you enjoyed my images. Continue through the circle. Next up is Elizabeth. You won’t want to miss her lovely images. Click HERE to see her take on this month’s theme.
Here we are at the end of another year. Our theme for Share Six is color. We’ve done this theme a few times. I’ve got lots of ideas running through my head, but as usual, I’m swamped with finishing up packaging orders and trying to get our Christmas preparations in order.
So I pulled from some images I took 10 years ago. One thing I loved doing was party planning. I loved planning fun birthday parties for my kids. So in 2012, what with my daughter being super artsy, we planned an art themed birthday party.
Of course I had to create some inspiration pictures and these are some of those images.

September’s theme is Intentional. I think it’s a great theme and very fitting for where I’m at in life right now. I’ve always tried to be very intentional in everything I do, however I’ve noticed that sometimes I get depressed and then get lazy, or I just lose my focus. Over the last few years I have been sinking into depression. Certain life circumstances have been beating me down. I’ve noticed that I’ve lost motivation in almost every area of my life. Nothing really brings me joy and so I’ve lost the motivation to be intentional. However I have finally decided that I need to pull myself up by the bootstraps and make myself do things, make myself live life. It may not pull me out of the depression, but it will have to help me in some way.
A few years ago when my son had Lyme disease, we overhauled our diet and our lifestyle. I felt so much better. So that is one thing I have decided to be intentional about again. I’ve started to neglect my health and I want to be intentional about getting back on track.
A few years ago, I started a Facebook group all about living a healthy lifestyle. I wanted to create a community where we could share recipes and share healthy tips. I have recently been heading up some health challenges through my group. For the events, I’ve wanted to have some nice header photos. So those images are my Intentional images.
As is the story of my life, I haven’t been feeling well for the last two weeks and my son just came down with Covid, so I was only able to take two images this month. I’m going to try to get at least one more image tomorrow and then I’ll add it to this post.
This first image is the image I took for my 100 mile walking challenge.
This second image is the image I created for my intermittent fasting challenge.

All about today…well, I’m not going to lie. Not much has changed since the last few times I’ve blogged. I honestly don’t remember the last time I picked up my camera for a personal project. Life has been absolutely crazy. I do however use my phone a lot to take pictures and document the important moments. As I’ve said before, the best camera to have is the one you have with you. It’s a quotation from someone else, but it’s very true. Maybe next month I’ll finally get my act together and get out my real camera, but for this month’s theme, all of my pictures were taken with my phone.
Here are some pictures from a day of kayaking for me. We kayaked through Mammoth Cave National Park and had quite the adventure. Between a portage that took an hour and a half and someone flipping their kayak and losing their phone and glasses, to an early end to our trip due to rapids. This day was crazy, maddening, hilarious and exhausting. These pictures truly emulate all about today.

I love this theme. When I found out this was this month’s theme, I was very excited. I really enjoy looking at flat lay images as well as challenging myself to create flat lay images. However, my life has still been quite crazy what with my dad being in the hospital. As usual, I didn’t get my pictures taken. Had planned to take them today but there was another situation with my dad. They thought he coded and he was rushed to the hospital from the rehab facility.
I do however have one photo and I will update my post with the other 5 as soon as possible.

Anyone who knows me knows that the last three months have been a long and exhausting road. My dad was hospitalized January 10 and it’s been a roller coaster ever since. I’ve watched my dad almost die 3 times. There were many days that were filled with sorrow instead of joy. For weeks I ate, slept and breathed the hospital.
Quite honestly, I have had no time to take any personal pictures other than the ones I’ve taken with my phone of my dad and his progress. I’d love to share those, but I’m not sure my dad would like that.
Over the course of these last 3 months I have had to find joy in each little victory, in every small thing that could possibly boost my spirits. From the sun shining, to my dad finally waking up from sedation, to my dad finally standing up. This is where my joy lies.
So often we get caught up in trying to find or create exciting, over-the-top situations so that we can have joy. Once tragedy strikes though, you realize what really matters in life. Nothing can replace the joy of being with a loved one.
My dad shouldn’t be alive. He truly is a miracle. I don’t understand how God works. I don’t understand His purpose, but I am so thankful for the miracles He has done. Even when things weren’t looking good, even when my dad almost died, God kept reminding me that we must be joyful. I am so thankful for each moment I have spent with him during this whole ordeal. Praying over him, stroking his hair while he was asleep and intubated, holding his hand, watching him wave for first time after waking up, hearing his voice for the first time after weeks of not being able to talk…every little moment spent with him has brought me immense joy. I’ve always tried to have the mindset of finding joy in the little things, but this experience has really reminded me just how important that is. It’s amazing how much joy you can get from a simple smile from a loved one, from the bright sun rays shining in your window, from the squeeze of your daddy’s hand.
I encourage every one of you to slow down and truly find joy in the little things. Don’t underestimate how much joy those simple things can bring you. You just might be surprised at how fulfilling life can be even if life seems mundane or even sad.

Growing up, we never had indoor pets as my dad had allergies to most pets. We did have a few outdoor pets though.
For a while we had bunnies. My rabbit was white and I named him Snowball. Ok, not a very original name, but I was young. We lived right by a main road as well as the interstate. Our tiny neighborhood was a prime spot for people to drop off their unwanted pets, especially cats. So we ended up feeding those cats and they became our outdoor pets.
Fast forward several years and I fell in love with my in-laws’ dog. So one day I took the kids to the shelter and we fell in love with this little poodle mix – Sammy. We ended up adopting him and he is a member of our family. I never knew how much I could love a dog.
My other images are of my in-laws’ dogs Molly and Tanner as well as our goldendoodle Baymax. These dogs work their way into your heart. They love you unconditionally and always greet you with a wagging tail. They truly enrich our lives!
